This position will be part of the Western Region Construction Crew. This is a traveling crew that will be responsible for completing a variety of projects (remodels, siding, flooring, fencing, concrete, and other projects) at the Correctional Centers.

Serves as lead worker; directs skilled, semi-skilled, and/or unskilled workers on a variety of projects; assists in establishing project schedules; coordinates the ordering and delivery of materials and supplies

Performs masonry work including the installation of back-up and split face concrete block/stone masonry/ tuck pointing/flashing; installs water and wastewater systems; constructs and sets forms/fabricates steel reinforcements/pours concrete for footings, foundations, and flatwork; finishes exposed aggregate; installs sub-flooring/flooring; constructs inner/outer walls on buildings; constructs/installs vanities and cabinets; installs siding/windows/exterior doors; installs/replaces roofing; builds rafters and/or sets trusses; installs or renovates complete plumbing/electrical/heating and cooling systems in buildings; paints buildings and other structures using sprayers/brushes/rollers; installs paneling/wallpaper/drywall/ceramic tile/other interior finishes; Performs finish carpentry/installation of millwork; constructs boardwalks/stairs/platforms; performs restoration/renovation work on historic buildings/other structures

Operates a motor vehicle; operates heavy equipment occasionally; exercises independence in the performance of responsibilities; receives general administrative direction; assignments may be accompanied by blueprints/penciled layouts/sketches; work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through inspections; performs other related work as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Four or more years of on-the-job training or experience in a building trade.

Special Requirements:

By assignment, a position may require the ability to obtain the proper motor vehicle operator's license; or training, licenses, or certification required for the operation and maintenance of equipment and proper construction methods

Some positions are eligible for a shift differential of $173.34 semi-monthly, which is provided to employees with shifts that begin on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am, and who work at a 24/7 worksite (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center), or whose work requires regular visits to these locations. If selected for interview, eligibility may be discussed at that time with the hiring manager.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
