JOB SUMMARY:
The Infrastructure Administrator position will provide support in resolving complex network issues for both wired and wireless systems to identify, analyze, troubleshoot and diagnose issues with the goal of continuous improvement of service delivery. This position will be responsible for maintenance and configuration of complex essential network technologies including local and wide area networking, voice, wireless, VPN, and data storage and delivery. This is an onsite non-supervisory position.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:
Configure, deploy, and maintain complex network technologies including core/access switches, routers, firewalls, wireless controllers, access points, and storage area networks using departmental and industry accepted best practices and procedures.
Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, topology, change management, patch management, and service records.
Preserve the confidentiality of all confidential data and information residing in the city network, in accordance with departmental policy, State, and Federal law.
Utilize network monitoring and alerting tools such as SolarWinds, Servers Alive, and Forticloud to recognize and resolve issues.
Identify and generate written documentation outlining future needs as related to core networking infrastructure and security.
Evaluate system architecture and its impact on stakeholder needs, including application performance and user experience.
Configuration of enterprise grade firewalls, including routing, VPN connections, and data encryption, while applying industry standard best practices for data and system protection.
Research and apply firmware and patches to critical infrastructure equipment and systems.
Administer both virtual and physical servers.
ACCOMPANYING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:
Advanced understanding of TCP/IP including layer 2/3 VLAN, Spanning-Tree Protocols, and static and dynamic routing protocols.
Understanding of network redundancy and standards including LAG, LACP, and failover automation.
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team to identify, troubleshoot, and isolate technical issues and perform root cause analysis.
Ability to engage vendors for support when applicable, and generate documentation outlining vendor recommendations and actions taken to resolve issues.
Ability to read patch and firmware notes and determine overall impact level on environment.
Ability to diagnose issues across VLAN and physical topologies.
Familiarity with VOIP technologies such as Call Manager, Unity, Cisco Emergency Responder, Contact Center/Attendant Console, SIP, Webex, and Teams.
Familiarity with VMWare, and virtualized computing environments.
Familiarity with or understanding of the core concepts of a hybridized active directory environment, specifically as it relates to security and service delivery.
Understanding of certificate generation and application.
Familiarity with data back ups, and system restoration.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Will accept a combination of education, certification, and experience.
Bachelors Degree degree in computer science or related discipline.
Network+, Security+, CCNA, or other comparable recognized certification.
3 - 5 years’ experience and proficiency in the following enterprise networking areas:
Switching
Routing
Firewall
Wireless
Must be able to obtain and maintain CJIS certification and pass required background test.
Must have or be able to obtain a valid Texas drivers license.
