Problem Solving Court - Deputy District Attorney III

Larimer County Fort Collins, Colorado, United States

Job Description:

Problem Solving Court - Deputy District Attorney III

Description

Overview

The District Attorney’s Office is seeking a compassionate and collaborative attorney to join our team and play a key role in our problem-solving courts. This position offers a chance to move beyond traditional prosecution and engage in a justice model focused on support, recovery, and long-term change.

In this role, you’ll primarily represent the Office in Competency Court and Veterans Court, with the potential to rotate through Drug Court, DUI Court, and Wellness Court. These courts provide an alternative to incarceration by addressing the root causes of criminal behavior, including addiction, mental health challenges, and combat-related trauma experienced by U.S. military veterans.

We’re looking for someone with a strong foundation in criminal law who brings critical and creative thinking to complex situations. Experience with, or a strong interest in, evidence-based sentencing alternatives is highly valued. You’ll work closely with judges, treatment providers, social service agencies, and other team members to develop and implement treatment plans that support recovery and reduce recidivism.

If you're passionate about justice, rehabilitation, and creating better outcomes for individuals and communities, this is an opportunity to make a lasting difference.
Our main office is in Fort Collins, with a second location in Loveland. We’re lucky to work near the Cache La Poudre and Big Thompson Rivers, Horsetooth Reservoir, and Rocky Mountain National Park. Staff are encouraged to take two long lunches a week to enjoy our community - whether it's running trails, biking in our Platinum-rated bike-friendly city, or taking a yoga class in Old Town. Our office is open Monday - Friday, 8-5 p.m. After a probationary period, there is a 1 day/week telecommuting option.

The District Attorney’s Office follows a blind hiring process. During the initial screening, hiring managers will only see your application, with your name and other identifying personal information redacted. Resumes and cover letters will be reviewed later, so please ensure your application is fully completed.

Attorneys in this position can expect a regular Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. schedule; however, they will also be included in the on-call schedule.

Please include a cover letter addressed to Robert Axmacher, Chief Deputy District Attorney.
