The Transportation & Public Works Department, Capital Delivery Division is seeking to hire an experienced Traffic Signal & Street Light Construction Inspector I. The selected candidate will be responsible for reviewing and understanding plans and overseeing construction projects involving traffic signals and street lights for conformance with plans, specification and contracts. This individual will establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, utilities, the general public and other employees. The candidate should be a responsible, dependable and extremely detail oriented individual who is willing to learn.
Minimum Qualifications: - HS diploma/GED and no previous experience required
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications: - Two (2) years of construction inspection experience involving the construction and maintenance of public works, traffic signals and street lights.
- Electrical Apprentice
- Ability to work overtime/call back hours during weekdays, weekends and holidays
- Microsoft Office computer skills (Word, Excel and Outlook)
The Construction Inspector I job responsibilities include: - Inspects work quality and materials used in a variety of public works projects during various stages of construction to ensure compliance with construction standards and codes, ordinances and regulations.
- Performs preliminary and final inspections and recommends acceptance of developments.
- Observes work during progress and upon completion. Coordinates change orders and advise contractors of changes in plans and specifications.
- Ensures that safety procedures are followed.
- Inspects various public works traffic signals and street lights.
- Acts as liaison between contractors and the general public with respect to various construction projects;
- A strong interpersonal, management, and excellent communications skills with the unique ability to be able to transfer these concepts clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing with the development community and internal City staff;
- Promote, establish, and maintain effective working relationships; and
- Knowledge of and expertise with Microsoft Office Suite;
Working Conditions Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting.
Physical Demand Medium work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
