This position is eligible for a Tiered Sign-On Bonus up to $5,000. What You'll Be DoingDo you have a residential or commercial plumbing background? If so, the
Physical Plant division of Wake County General Services is looking for applicants that are skilled in these areas to fulfill the roll of our to perform repairs, replacement and preventive maintenance duties relating to plumbing, piping, sprinkler systems and waste treatment systems for all Wake County facilities.
Primary Duties: - Complete routine and emergency work orders that may include stop ups, frozen pipes, leaky pipes or plumbing fixtures, pump failures, etc
- Perform daily preventive maintenance in all Wake County facilities including high and medium security detention facilities
- Assist with oversight of outside contractors that bid and perform related work
- Maintain information on all work orders
- Participate on the Physical Plant Safety Committee
- Work with the Safety Office to maintain a safe working environment
- Perform seasonal winterization and de-winterization of County property
- Schedule and assist in performing required testing of fire sprinkler systems

The Basics (Required Education and Experience) - High school diploma or GED
- Two years of experience in plumbing
- Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience) - NC Plumbing license or the ability to obtain within one year of employment
How Will We Know You're 'The One'? - Knowledge of commercial building domestic hot and cold water distribution systems
- Ability to read blueprints, work orders and various schematics
- Knowledge of relevant building codes and regulations
- Ability to work cooperatively with other trades staff
- Proven problem solving and decision making skills
- Effective verbal and listening communication skills
- Ability to work with limited supervision
- Knowledge of commercial wet and dry pipe sprinkler systems
- Effective time management skills
