Animal Services Veterinary Technician Supervisor

RequirementsMOS Code: (64F) ArmyEducation and Experience : Associate's Degree or higher in a Veterinary Program, Animal Health, Animal Science, Veterinary Assistant, or a related field and six (6) years of veterinary technician experience including two (2) years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role. Significant experience in an animal shelter or veterinary clinic, with a demonstrated track record of handling both clinical and administrative duties.
Licenses and Certificates : Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent from another state by the appointment date. Euthanasia Technician Certification (Health and Safety Code Chapter 821) within the first year of employment (renewed every three years). Licensed Veterinary Technician in Texas preferred.
General PurposeUnder general direction is responsible for overseeing and implementing the Animal Services medical programs and administrative functions. This role includes supervising veterinary staff while providing high-quality animal health services. This position involves administrative duties while ensuring compliance with medical protocols and biosecurity standards.
Typical DutiesOversee daily clinic administration. Involves: Participate in scheduling procedures and coordinate personnel resources. Compile and input data into the computerized medical records system. Coordinate international species inventory system recordkeeping with curatorial staff. Contact and correspond with other institutions regarding specific and unique clinical cases. Ensure maintenance, cleanliness, and sterility of veterinary facilities. Order and maintain inventory control of medical supplies including veterinary drugs. Develop, implement, and revise goals, policies, and procedures. Liaise with external clinics for diagnostics, surgeries, and special procedures. Conduct statistical analyses to improve the medical team's efficiency and the tracking of disease trends. Enforce biosecurity protocols in coordination with the shelter operations team. Provide recommendations for developing shelter disease protocols. Oversee medication distribution and animal nutrition programs. Train assigned staff, and ensure the completion of assignments.
Provide unit administrative oversight. Involves: Assist in planning and implementing the department's annual budget by analyzing current expenditures and future requirements. Oversees the daily cleaning and regular deep cleaning of vet tech’s office and workstations, Surgical Suite, Green Room, Recovery 2, Socorro Clinic, etc., ensuring maintenance, cleanliness, and sterility. Provide recommendations for the development of shelter disease protocols.
Supervise assigned staff. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct, guide, and check work. Provide training and development. Enforce personnel and safety rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate, and maintain harmony. Interview applicants and recommend hiring, termination, discipline, or other employee status changes.
