Position DescriptionEmployees in this classification provide support in an assigned research laboratory performing laboratory experiments and procedures. Assists with the development of new procedures and techniques to be utilized within the laboratory. Performs other functional duties such as maintenance of the laboratory and laboratory equipment and supplies. Work is performed under usual laboratory conditions. Some hazards maybe present due to use of radioactive, carcinogenic or other potentially harmful substances. Assists in training and direction of subordinate personnel.
Major/Essential Functions- Maintain orderly records of experiments
- Manage electronic databases
- Carry out pharmacological experiments on several models of AD, including cell cultures and rodents. We also conduct molecular and protein analyses to analyze the phenotypes of our models with and without drug exposure.
- Work on several AD clinical trials (the NIH funds 2) and carry out biomarker development experiments for neurodegenerative disorders on human biofluids.
- Participate in community-based dementia research activities in rural areas around Lubbock, Texas.
- Collaborate with local clinicians to initiate pilot projects aimed at improving the medical care provided to residents in the community we serve.
Required QualificationsHigh School Diploma. Also, coursework equivalent to two years of college in one of the sciences, or equivalent combination (2 years) of job-related experience and college education. Experience may be substituted for college education on year-for-year basis. EXPERIENCE: Combination of training and experience equivalent to two years or two years of college coursework in one of the sciences.
