The City of Fort Worth FWLab Planning Division is hiring a Sr. Planner - Long-Range Planning. The FWLab is an initiative created to support Fort Worth's organizational values and improve government. It advances the City's vision to " be the most livable and best managed city in the country " by building capacity to explore, analyze, and learn from data in municipal systems, including priority-based budgeting, data analytics, comprehensive planning, strategic infrastructure planning, bond program coordination, operational assessments, strategic foresight, departmental strategic planning (FWStat), and Lean Six Sigma.
The Planning Division develops and implements long-range plans for the city’s growth, updating the Comprehensive Plan, conducting fiscal analyses, planning for Transit-Oriented Development and urban areas, managing the Urban Village Development Program, coordinating Trinity River Vision and Panther Island projects, and supporting open space, watershed, and urban design initiatives. It collaborates with City departments and stakeholders to align capital projects with the Capital Improvement Plan, ensuring strategic investments and performance monitoring.
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Planning, Urban Planning or Design, Geographic Information Systems, Architecture, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Historic Preservation, Archaeology or Architectural History, Real Estate Development or related field. For this job description, there is no applicable education substitution for the minimum qualifications.
- Five (5) years’ experience in planning, urban design or related field.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications: - Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Urban or Regional Planning, GIS, Urban Geography, Public Administration, Data Analytics, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- More than five (5) years of experience in planning with an emphasis on long-range city planning, GIS, and/or municipal data analytics.
- Significant experience in long-range planning, including compelling work on municipal comprehensive plans, area plans, and/or urban design plans for walkable urban districts.
- Excellent writing skills with expertise in graphic document layout and/or graphic design skills; proficiency in GIS and data analysis; and project management skills.
- Proficiency in standard MS Office software is expected, along with skills with ArcGIS Pro and/or document design software Adobe Creative Suite.
- Membership or certification from APA/AICP, GISP, CNU-A, or an equivalent professional organization is a plus.
The Sr. Planner - Long-Range Planning job responsibilities include: - Preparing and updating the City’s Comprehensive Plan and special purpose or specific area plans.
- Completing planning-focused GIS and data analytics projects such as growth scenarios; return on public investment analyses; data-driven strategic planning; and fiscal impact analyses of plans, capital investments, and development forms and patterns.
- Analyzing and integrating land use, environmental, and transportation planning information for a variety of plans and planning projects.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and community groups to develop corridor plans and neighborhood plans, ensuring alignment with the City’s overall strategic objectives.
- Managing consultant contracts and public participation processes associated with the Comprehensive Plan, target area planning, or capital project planning.
- Carry out long-range and strategic planning assignments related to comprehensive planning and small area planning.
- Prepare high-quality plans, reports, and maps through data gathering and analysis, plan and report writing, document layout and graphics, and presentations.
- Work with team members, other City departments, and partner agencies to support long-range plan development and implementation, with an emphasis on data-driven growth and development decisions and infrastructure investments.
