Construction Inspector I job is available with the City of Fort Worth, Development Services Department within the Parkway Inspection Division. The selected candidate will be responsible for participating in the complete inspection of construction projects involving infrastructure installation, material testing, and concrete and asphalt paving for conformance with plan specifications and contracts. This individual will establish and maintain effective working relationships and contractors, utilities, the public, and other employees. The Candidate should be a responsible, dependable, and extremely detail-oriented individual who is willing to learn.
Minimum Qualifications: - High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Must pass physical and drug screen
Preferred Qualifications: - College or technical school coursework
- Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat
- Experience in the interpretation of plans and specifications in the construction of infrastructure projects
The Construction Inspector I job responsibilities include: - The candidate will inspect work quality and materials used in a variety of public works projects for compliance with building and construction standards and codes.
- Previews plans and specifications for projects prior to inspection,
- Prepares daily construction progress reports and progress pay estimates,
- Takes samples of materials for examination or analysis by laboratories,
- Coordinates change orders and advises contractors of changes in plans and specifications,
- Advises with members of general public concerning problems resulting from projects, adjacent to their property or who may be affected by assigned project, and
- Acts as liaison between contractors and the general public with respect to various projects.
Working Conditions Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, and repetitive motions.
Physical Demand Light Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.
