Larimer County Department of Health and Environment (LCDHE) is hiring 2 Communicable Disease Epidemiologists to join our team and drive public health initiatives that protect and enhance our community's well-being.

We are seeking to fill two Communicable Disease Epidemiologist positions within our team. These roles are essential in supporting the surveillance, investigation, and control of communicable diseases in our community.

• Entry-Level Epidemiologist: This position is designed for candidates who are early in their public health careers. The role will focus on foundational epidemiologic functions such as data collection and analysis, outbreak response support, and report preparation under supervision.
  
• Mid-Level Epidemiologist: This position requires prior experience in epidemiology, particularly in communicable disease investigation and surveillance. The role will involve leading complex data analyses, coordinating outbreak responses, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating with internal and external partners to inform public health action.
  

We are looking for collaborative team members with a strong foundation and knowledge in infectious disease and data analytics.
These roles will serve as an epidemiological and technical resource working with internal and community partners to prevent and control disease in Larimer County. This includes conducting communicable disease investigations, enhancing disease surveillance, and educating the public and key stakeholders on various communicable diseases and responses. Additional activities include preparing and developing statistical reports and analyses. These are partially grant funded position through the Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) grant.

The typical work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This role offers the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement, with a minimum of two in-person days per week. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required during public health emergencies or urgent response situations.

Responsibilities

What you'll be doing:

• Investigating individual disease cases, clusters, and outbreaks.
• Implementing appropriate disease control and prevention measures based on local, state, and federal guidelines and best practices.
• Providing education to the public, healthcare providers, and other community partners on pertinent communicable diseases.
• Designing and implementing tools for collecting, analyzing, and disseminating surveillance information and data.
• Preparing and disseminating reports, disease summaries, and other materials to communicate findings on existing or emerging public health issues.

What we're looking for:

• Knowledge and experience in epidemiologic and biostatistical analysis, including planning and managing projects, collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data, and applying quantitative and qualitative evaluation methodologies.
• Proficiency in statistical software, data-related applications, and database management systems such as R, SAS, STATA, Tableau, Power BI, and ArcGIS.
• Understanding of the principles and practices of epidemiology, disease surveillance, investigative techniques, outbreak investigations, and disease control.
• Ability to write scientific reports and data summaries effectively.
• Flexibility to adapt and reprioritize work as situations change.

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental or public health, or a science-based or health care professional field/discipline, required. Master's degree in Public Health or Science in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a closely related field preferred.
• Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.

$34.71 - $41.66 Hourly
