The City of Fort Worth Environmental Services department is recruiting two Environmental Field Operations Supervisors. These positions may oversee day-to-day operations in one or more of several sections in Solid Waste Division including but not limited to: Drop-off Stations, Environmental Collection Center or Dead Animal Collection. This role involves collaboration with fellow Supervisors to ensure effective staffing, operational efficiency, contract management, budget planning, and customer satisfaction.
The Environmental Services Department, Solid Waste Services Division, manages essential programs aimed at maintaining environmental quality, as well as providing garbage, recycling, and waste reduction services for Fort Worth residents; thereby advancing the City’s goal of becoming the “most livable and best managed city in the country.”
Minimum Qualifications: - High school diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by specialized training in one or more of the following fields: environmental compliance, litter control, solid waste or recycling, sustainability, environmental stewardship or waste diversion.
- Four (4) years of experience in one or more of the following disciplines: environmental compliance/field operations, solid waste and recycling, vehicles or related heavy equipment operations, or operating motorized heavy equipment including one (1) year of administrative and supervisory experience.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Possession of an CDL Class “A” or “B” license or ability to receive within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications: - Advanced knowledge of data entry systems such as the Information Technology Service Management System (ITSM) and/or a work order management system and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint).

- Microsoft Access Databases
- VISIO and/or Smartsheet
- Web Applications such as MyFW app and CRM application
- Data and budget management experience
- Demonstrate ability to provide data analysis and detailed operation reports
- Experience creating and maintaining graphs or visual representation of data
- Use analysis to prove effective operations and cost-effective solutions
- Demonstrate ability to work with multiple staff and/or departments
- Experience presenting to neighborhood associations other stakeholders
- Experience heavy equipment operations such as Excavators, Roll-off Trucks, and Roto Booms
The Environmental Field Operations Supervisor job responsibilities include: - Ensures daily performance goals are completed by internal staff and contractors.
- Supervises staff, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions or recommendations.
- Responds to inquiries and complaints; provides information to neighborhood associations and community members; responds to internal and external customer service requests; provides support for local, state and federal enforcement agencies; and works closely with other departments to provide outstanding customer service.
- Conducts detailed accident investigations, as needed. Ensures the safety and welfare of employees and citizens involved; and adheres to proper Human Resources procedures.
- Coordinate and participate in staff development and cross training of operations staff to increase performance and cross-functional development
- Controls and maintains departmental equipment through training, preventative maintenance, reporting necessary repairs, tracking, researching and oversight of safe use of equipment.
- Assists in the development and oversight of assigned division budget. Monitors and controls expenditures.
- Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations
Working Conditions Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises. Indoor and outdoor environments; exposure to inclement weather conditions while inspecting various field and operational sites; exposure to chemicals, potentially toxic materials, solid waste debris and water as related to assigned tasks; hazards associated with operating a motor vehicle and related equipment.
Physical Demand Medium work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
