The Ventura County Health Care Agency is seeking experienced nurses for a Float unit to supplement staffing in designated hospital units of the Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC).

Ideal candidates will promote excellence and safety in professional nursing practice. Float Pool assignments will be flexibly staffed within a specialty unit or cluster providing additional support across both VCMC and Santa Paula Hospital campuses. Candidates assigned to Float Pool will not be regularly assigned to any designated unit, but instead will work in two (2) specialty units/clusters designated as:
Med Surg/Tele Float Pool: The Medical/Surgery (MS3), Telemetry Units (MS1 & ICU1) & Admitted patients holding in ED (ED holds)Critical Care Float Pool: Intensive Care Unit, DOU, PACU, IR, Admitted patients holding in ED (ED holds) Depending upon area of assignment, additional specialty experience and/or certification(s) may be required.

The Senior Registered Nurse-Hospital is distinguished from other staff nursing classifications in that incumbents demonstrate advanced competency skills reflecting specialized knowledge specific to the assigned hospital unit; participate in performance improvement processes; and provide technical direction. Incumbents are expected to work at the full scope of their licensure/specialty area with a decreasing amount of supervision commensurate with their experience.

PAYROLL TITLE: Senior Registered Nurse-Hospital

Senior Registered Nurse-Hospital is represented by the California Nurses' Association (CNA) and is eligible for overtime compensation. Salary placement will be determined according to the current CNA memorandum of agreement.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Regular (including Temporary and Fixed-term), Intermittent, and Extra Help vacancies. There is currently one (1) Regular vacancy.

Typical Qualifications

These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE
Requires two (2) years of full-time professional registered nursing experience including two (2) years of full-time experience in assigned Medical Surgical, Telemetry, or Critical Care hospital specialty areas.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

DESIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Comprehensive knowledge of: the principles, practices, and techniques used in advanced nursing care of Medical Surgical, Telemetry, or Critical Care units.

Working knowledge of: performance improvement processes, hospital based/nursing committee practices, and patient and staff education methods.

Working ability to: provide direction to others; self-direct continuing education needs, provide a positive role model and public image; work proficiently in emergency and/or stressful situations; maintain confidentiality of patient/client information; effectively establish and maintain working relationships with medical staff, co-workers, patients and the public; and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
