Level I: $5,883 - $7,151 per month

Level II: $7,185 - $8,733 per month

Level III: $8,528 - $10,366 per month

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The San Rafael Fire Department is an all-risk fire agency that includesAdvanced Life Support (ALS) response, ambulance transport, technical rescue, hazardous material response, disaster response, fire prevention, and community preparedness. We constantly strive to provide the highest level and most capable emergency service delivery possible to our community; a service that is professional, compassionate, predictable, consistent, and sustainable.

THE POSITION

The Emergency Management Coordinator (EMC) plays a vital role in supporting the City's Office of Emergency Services (OES) by enhancing disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. Under the direction of the Deputy Director, the EMC helps develop and maintain critical emergency plans, including the Emergency Operations Plan, Hazard Mitigation Plan, and Wildfire Action Plan.

The EMC also coordinates outreach and public education to improve community resilience and partners with local agencies to strengthen emergency preparedness across San Rafael. Key responsibilities include supporting the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), organizing training and exercises, and assisting with emergency response during critical incidents.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are seeking dynamic, resourceful, and highly motivated Emergency Management Coordinators to serve the City of San Rafael. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical expertise in emergency management practices, along with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. This role requires someone who is passionate about disaster preparedness and can inspire residents to take proactive steps toward safeguarding themselves and their communities.

As an Emergency Management Coordinator, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating emergency response plans and staff and residential training. The successful candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule and succeed both independently and collaboratively within a team, effectively manage volunteers, and foster a culture of preparedness and resilience.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Employees will be issued personal protective equipment (PPE) and is responsible for using the proper PPE in the appropriate environment. Examples of PPE may include a hardhat, hearing protection while in noisy environments, eye protection, and safety shoes.
