Minimum Starting Salary: $19.0000 hourly. This position is grant-funded.
The City of Waco Seeks:
The Waco Metropolitan Planning Organization expects to hire up to two research assistants/interns to assist with updating its planning documents such as Active Transportation Plan, and Comprehensive Safety Action Plan; development of Smart Corridor Network Plan; implementation of tactical urbanism-based safety demonstration projects; and strengthening data analysis efforts to support planning activities by developing and integrating data dashboards, GIS layers and story maps. The duration of the internship/research assistantship is expected to be 12-16 weeks but can be extended if needed. Minimum Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree in urban planning, civil engineering, geography, landscape architecture, data science, or a related field.
Preferred:
Enrollment in a graduate program at a higher education institution pursuing a degree or certification within a related field of study of the department. ( Students must provide proof of enrollment by submitting a transcript.)
A 3.0 (out of a 4-point scale) overall GPA
Driver's License
Position Overview Under basic supervision, the Research Assistant will support the department by providing a variety of duties in all areas of the department.
Essential Functions
Performs various data analysis duties, including both qualitative and quantitative data gathering, tabulation, classification, analyses, and visual representation.
Review local, regional, state, and federal policies and planning documents to offer analytical reports and recommendations for improvement.
Assists with meeting agendas, attend meetings, and make presentations on assigned topics.
Conducts research to find needed information per department needs.
Creates GIS and other relevant data layers.
Assist in preparing information and research materials and create and maintain PowerPoint presentations.
Manages databases and input information, data, and records.
Maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and matters internal to Waco MPO and the City of Waco.
