Job Description Summary :

The Plans Examiner is responsible for reviewing, examining and analyzing plans and specifications of residential and commercial construction documents to ensure compliance with adopted building codes , state laws, and Jefferson County requirements . The Plans Examiner must provide efficient and effective communication with customers, contractors, and design professional regarding county permitting process and procedures as well as plan deficiencies and permit approval or denial . Frequently col laborates with other county departments on development and permitting issues. This position documents and maintains related records and reports, calculates related permit fees and occasionally performs on-site inspections when required .

Schedule:

This position operates on our four-day work week (Monday-Thursday). This position is hybrid, after a training period.

C o mpensation:

Target Hiring Range: $3 4 - $3 6 USD Hourly

Full pay range for job profile: 33.32 - 41.65 - 49.98 USD Hourly

Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.

Essential Duties:

• Review submitted residential and commercial plans to ensure they meet the required design criteria through use of calculations and a complete code compliance re view .
  

• Assist customers in understanding the processes and procedures of building permits including the interconnection of all applicable s tate, local and national regulations .
  

• Use computer programs and systems that interface with general office equipment and procedures . Perform digital plan reviews using Bluebeam.
  

• Coordinate work with other staff members in the department and in other county departments .
  

• Perform field inspections. Evaluate project for code compliance and determine appropriate action . Other duties as assigned.
  

• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

M inimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of experience in construction, or related field.
  

• Or an equivalent combination of education & experience.
  

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Experience performing residential and commercial plan review for a government building department preferred
  

• ICC certifications in residential and commercial plan review, energy code, and accessibility preferred
  

• Must possess knowledge of building inspection and construction processes
  

• Strong written and oral communication
  

• Independent critical thinking and analysis
  

• Demonstrating initiative, innovation, and resiliency
  

• Experience with Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365 and Bluebeam
  

• High attention to detail when proofreading/correcting written reports
  

• Experience in the interpretation and application of building codes
  

• Ability to read blueprints
  

Additional Job Information:

• International Code Council Plans Examiner Certification within 1 year of date of hire .
  

• Additional related certification within 2 years.
