Located in Southern California in the Coachella Valley, the City of Indio (approximate population 100,000) spans 30 square miles. Nearly 1.4 million people visit the “City of Festivals” every year to attend its world-famous arts, food, and music festivals such as the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival and Stagecoach Country Music Festival. The Assistant Police Chief is a sworn peace officer who performs managerial, administrative, and technical work of considerable difficulty and responsibility for the Indio Police Department and provides complex and administrative support to the Chief of Police. Reporting directly to the Chief of Police, the incumbent assists with management of the activities of the police department and provides professional and technical assistance to the Chief of Police and City staff in assigned areas. The City of Indio is seeking a collaborative, strategic, and forward-thinking candidate to serve as the next Assistant Police Chief. The ideal candidate will help build and foster an inclusive, positive workplace culture and will serve as a role model for the rest of the organization. Candidates must possess knowledge of current, contemporary policing issues as well as applicable federal, state, and local laws, and appropriate court decisions. The successful candidate will provide professional and administrative assistance to the Chief of Police using progressive management principles.

 

The annual salary range for the Assistant Police Chief is up to $229,154; POST Certificate pay can add up to an additional 15% to the annual salary; placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
