The Missouri Office of Administration is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the role of Public Information Officer. The Public Information Officer plays a vital role in shaping the public perception of the agency and maintaining positive relationships with the media and the public. This individual serves as the primary point of contact for disseminating information to the public and ensuring that the agency’s message is accurately and effectively communicated. By effectively managing communication strategies and engaging with various stakeholders, the Public Information Officer helps to build trust and credibility for the agency.
The Public Information Officer works closely with the Commissioner of OA, Director of Communications, other key members of the leadership team, members of the General Assembly, and Office of the Governor to convey information efficiently and effectively to the public on behalf of OA. This role demands outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to perform under pressure and meet strict deadlines. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.
Key responsibilities include:
- Writing press releases, speeches, internal newsletter articles, and other materials for distribution to the media, public, and State of Missouri team members.
- Preparing responses to media inquiries and coordinating interviews.
- Monitoring media coverage for impact on the agency.
- Establishing and cultivating strong relationships with the Missouri General Assembly, journalists, and media outlets to facilitate clear and impactful communication with the public.
- Developing and implementing communication strategies to promote the agency’s vision.
- Managing social media accounts to promote positive public relations.
Minimum Qualifications: - Two or more years of professional experience in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Ability to maintain organization and prioritization for projects.
- Demonstrated proficiency in building and sustaining productive working relationships with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaborate effectively with a team.
- Working knowledge of social media platforms and website content management systems (Facebook, X, Instagram, Drupal, and WordPress).
Additional Desirable Qualifications: - Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with an emphasis (24 earned credit hours) in one or more of the following concentrations: journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, business/public administration, or a closely related field.
- Knowledge of the Missouri Sunshine Law or willingness to learn.
- Proficiency with Associate Press style guidelines.
