Key Responsibilities:
- Student Support & Accommodations: Serve as the primary point of contact for students authorized for alternative media accommodations.
- Alternative Media Intake & Management: Conduct alternative media intakes, assess accommodation needs, and provide guidance on best practices.
- Course Material Accessibility: Manage alternative media requests, ensuring timely access to accessible course materials.
- Faculty & Staff Collaboration: Act as a resource for students, faculty, and staff regarding alternative media and accessibility best practices.
- Relationship Building: Maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and the public while coordinating accommodations.

Position Information - This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position with an anticipated end date of December 31, 2025, with the possibility of reappointment.
- This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
- Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
- The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary Student Disability Services (SDS) in the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity provides a full range of accommodations and services to nearly 2,500 students with physical, psychological, and learning disabilities, facilitating equal access to the educational process. This is accomplished through direct service support, review of campus accessibility, adaptive technology, assessment, test accommodation, and a variety of other services. Accommodations vary according to types of disabilities, and may include sign language interpreting; provision of alternative formats, such as electronic text or Braille; computer-assisted real-time captioning; test accommodations; advising; assistive computer technology; cart transportation services, and numerous other services. Provision of these academic support services, technology and advocacy promotes the retention and graduation of students with disabilities at SDSU.
The office consists of professional staff to include, the Director, Assistant Director, Manager of DHH and Cart Services, a Disability Accommodations Services Coordinator, five Accommodations Counselors, one Disability Career Counselor, an Accessible Technology Coordinator, two Accessible Technology Advisors, an Administrative Analyst, two Media Captioning Coordinators , a Special Programs Coordinator, and After-hours Transportation Assistant, 1 Office Systems Coordinator, and two Administrative support staff and 50-60 hourly staff interpreters and student assistants.
Two additional programs are affiliated with the Student Disability Services. The first is funded by a federal TRiO-Student Support Services grant that provides enhanced services intended to increase graduation and retention rates of at-risk undergraduates. The TRiO-SSS program employs three professional staff. The second is a Workability IV program that is a cooperative contract between the state Department of Rehabilitation (DOR), SDSU Career Services and Student Disability Services the purpose of which is to deliver enhanced career services to students with disabilities who are DOR consumers. The Workability IV program employs one full-time professional staff and one part-time support staff.

Education and Experience Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
Key Qualifications - Demonstrates competency using Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with electronic text conversion tools and alternative media production processes.
- Proficiency with assistive/accessible technology software and hardware, such as screen readers, alternative input devices, and speech recognition software.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in maintaining documentation and tracking systems.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate respectfully and professionally with students and faculty.
- Understanding of or ability to rapidly acquire an understanding of basic processes in alternative media production.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities and a strong understanding of accessibility principles and best practices are preferred.
- Certification in accessibility standards or assistive technology training is preferred.
- Master’s degree in field related to job responsibilities preferred.
Compensation and Benefits Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,083 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,083 - $7,228 per month.
