A Veterinary Technician job is available with the City of Fort Worth Code Compliance Department - Animal Care & Control Division located at our North Animal Campus. This position will represent the City of Fort Worth by providing professional, courteous, and quality of care for animals in our animal shelter clinic. We are looking to fill one vacancy.

The City of Fort Worth has a progressive animal welfare program that enjoys broad based support from elected officials, industry, residents, and animal welfare agencies. A group of City staff and private business professionals raised over $1 million for a new medical treatment ward that opened in October 2014 to supplement its surgical clinic where approximately 6,000 animals are spayed/neutered each year. Also, in 2015, the shelter added outdoor kennels and dog enrichment areas. A $1 million expansion of the Chuck and Brenda Silcox shelter was completed in 2017 with the opening of a second shelter in 2022 located in north Fort Worth. The annual live release rate for fiscal year 2021 was nearly 97% with an intake of over 17,000 animals.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Two (2) years of increasingly responsible veterinary assistant experience.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Veterinary Technician certificate.
• Must pass HPE & Drug Screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Higher levels of education in Animal Science, Veterinary Technology or related field.
• High Volume High Quality Spay/Neuter experience.
• Knowledge or experience with Trap, Neuter, Release and Return to Field programs, and experience with Foster and Rescue.
• Possession of Euthanasia Certificate.
• Experience in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), in addition to, PetPoint or other veterinary software.

This assignment is within the Animal Care and Control division; however, lead assignments may include cross-departmental responsibilities. Will require the ability to work at any of our facilities, including our satellite locations. Designated shifts will include days, evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours based on operational needs. The Fort Worth Everyday Adoption Centers are open and staffed seven days per week. Positions are subjected to mandatory overtime.

The Veterinary Technician job responsibilities include:

• Animal observations; ensuring animals have appropriate food, water and clean environments.
• Conduct laboratory tests including blood tests, fecal examinations and skin scrapings, vaccinations and a variety of medical procedures as directed by the Veterinarian.
• Assist with special projects including coordinating pet transport to/from adoption events, foster recruitment and processing incoming foster applications.

Medium work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
