About the Opportunity

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE Public Works is looking for a candidate with strong organizational and communication skills to fill an Engineer I/II/III position within Construction and Design in the Engineering Division. The ideal candidate for this position is a team member who is motivated and self-driven in performing various tasks related to project development and design. The ideal candidate should also be comfortable working in a team environment and interacting with members of the public, various project stakeholders, and other County Departments. THE POSITION
ENGINEER I: This is the entry-level in the Engineer/Civil Engineer series. Incumbents are assigned routine to average complexity projects and exercise limited judgment and initiative in completing assignments. This classification is distinguished from Engineer II in that the latter classification is the journey level and performs more difficult and complex projects with a higher degree of independence.

ENGINEER II: This is the journey, non-registered level in the Engineer/Civil Engineer series. Incumbents are assigned difficult and complex projects and exercise judgment and initiative in completing assignments. This classification is distinguished from Engineer III in that the latter classification is the advanced journey level and performs more difficult and complex projects.

ENGINEER III: This is the advanced journey, non-registered level in the Engineer series. Incumbents are assigned difficult and complex projects and given latitude for exercising independent judgment and initiative in completing assignments. This classification is distinguished from Engineer II in that the latter classification is the journey level responsible for less difficult and complex projects. This classification is distinguished from Civil Engineer in that the latter may supervise a small division or section of a larger division.

Unless otherwise provided, this position is part of the Classified Service of the County and is assigned to the Mid-Management/Supervisory bargaining unit for labor relations purposes. Individuals who are in a full-time classification position are required to serve a twelve-month probationary period, which may be extended an additional six months, for a total of eighteen months.

Incumbents may also be subject to overtime, standby, callback, weekend, holiday, and shift assignments as identified in their MOU (Memorandum of Understanding).

Part-time extra-help is a provisional classification where permanent status may not be obtained. This position is subject to overtime, standby, shift, and callback assignments, and will perform related duties as assigned. This position is non-benefited except for participation in a 401a program with Nationwide.
