Major Duties Under general supervision of the Director, and the lead direction of the Assistive Technology Specialist, the Alternate Format Specialist coordinates the acquisition and/or production of printed course materials such as textbooks into an alternate format [electronic text (e-text), large print, Braille, raised line graphics, etc.] for students with print-related disabilities. The incumbent creates accessible content in various formats and remediates documents to ensure usability with various assistive technology software and devices.
- Collaborates with Assistive Technology Specialist on document format and usability on assistive technology software/devices.
- Leads and trains student assistants supporting alternate format production; serves as a resource to CSUN students, faculty, and staff on document accessibility and applying universal design concepts.

Qualifications - Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field.
- Certification training and applied experience may be substituted for the required education, on a year-for-year basis.
- Equivalent to six months of full-time computing experience which includes knowledge of relevant hardware, software, maintenance, and user support.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities - General working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods, and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems. Functional knowledge of: Universal Design concepts, W3C WCAG 2.1 standards, PDF/UA standards, and Section 508 standards is desirable.
- Ability and specialized skills to: recognize technology problems and offer reasonable solutions; solve common problems or problems that have precedent solutions; organize projects and work within timeframes and deadlines; effectively present ideas, explain problems, and recommend solutions orally and in writing; actively participate as a team member by meeting assigned deadlines, listening to ideas of others, and acting on expressed needs; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration.

- Classification: Information Technology Consultant / 0420 / 1
- The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $4094 - $4,900 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $4094 - $7881per month.
- HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.
- This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
- The position is currently hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
