The COVID-19 pandemic has intensified mental health challenges, especially among youth in Jefferson County, with diverse youth populations reporting increased isolation, mental health struggles, and hesitancy in seeking help for nicotine cessation. JCPH aims to offer youth-centered, culturally sensitive cessation services and empower young people to be key decision-makers in tobacco prevention efforts.

Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) is seeking a dedicated Public Health Nurse, Program Lead to build and administer a youth-driven nicotine cessation program to address increasing rates of youth vaping and nicotine dependence. This initiative focuses on integrating youth-led strategies to prevent vaping and offer accessible cessation resources for adolescents and young adults aged 12-21 . This role involves building partnerships with youth and community partners to develop and implement youth-led outreach, advancing evidence-based nicotine cessation efforts in clinic, and evaluating the effectiveness of these interventions.

This position involves clinic and community setting public health nursing work to promote and protect the health of individuals, families and populations using knowledge from nursing, social, and public health sciences. This position is located within the JCPH Clinic Services division, which provides immunization, sexual health, and harm reduction services to our community. This role will also partner extensively with the JCPH tobacco prevention team.

The ideal candidate is passionate about health equity and will excel in a clinical nursing setting, specifically in a public health role. This individual will be highly motivated, self-directed, and work creatively. They are adept at developing relationships and trust with youth and will be able to effectively engage with internal and external partners.

Schedule:

This position typically operates on a 4-day work week Monday-Thursday with occasional Friday, evening and weekend shifts as needed. This position is anticipated to allow for a hybrid work schedule; however, in-person work in clinic and the community will be required .

This position will be required to travel within the county for outreach projects.

Compensation:

Hiring Range: $80,000-$95,000 USD Annual

Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills. Please note that this position is grant-funded, and funding is not guaranteed beyond June 2026 .

Essential Duties:

The Public Health Nurse Lead - Youth Nicotine Cessation Program will have primary responsibility for developing and administering JCPH’s youth-centered nicotine cessation services, to include:
