Police Civilian Custody Supervisor
Description
Definition Come join the Newport Beach Police Department as a Police Civilian Custody Supervisor ! Currently there is one full-time opening. This position will perform a variety of supervisory duties related to the processing of arrestees/inmates into and out of the City jail. This recruitment will remain open on a continuous basis with the first review of applications on January 2, 2025, OR until 200 applications are received - whichever occurs first. Interview: C onducted in person and t entatively scheduled for
February 5, 2025. Passing candidates will be placed on an eligibility list and may be invited to begin the background process. Final selection will be made by the Police Chief according to Civil Service Rules & Regulations. Prior to any offer of employment, a thorough background investigation will be conducted.
The candidate selected for the position will undergo a thorough background investigation including a polygraph examination. Once a conditional job offer has been made, the candidate will undergo comprehensive medical and psychological examinations, including a urine drug screen, by City Medical Examiners.
Schedule:
This position will work 10 hour shifts.
CalPERS Retirement: The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement Systems (CalPERS). Retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 13% of pay toward the retirement benefit.
Work Environment :
Normal office conditions and Type I jail facility. This position is required to work weekdays, evenings, and on weekends as necessary to properly staff the work unit.

Experience & Education and License/CertificateA combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Two or more years of experience in custody operations.
Education: Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis on supervision/management is preferred.
License/Certificate : Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or city vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record may be required.
Completion of required training to meet State requirements for a Custodial Officer.
Completion of or ability to complete within 90 days of hire, P.C. 832 Powers of Arrest course.
Completion of BSCC Standards and Training for Corrections Core course (Jailer Academy) within 12 months of hire.

Salary:
$7,106.70 - $10,499.61 Monthly
