Classification Salary Range: $3,746 - $5,881 per month
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $3,746 - $3,821 per month.
The final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
About the Department/Position: Under general supervision of the Dean for the College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences, this position performs support services for a variety of kinds of courses in an instructional program by providing materials, supplies, equipment and related logistical support to lecture, laboratory, research or other activities. The incumbent prepares materials, supplies and equipment using special methods and procedures related to the discipline to which assigned.
Overview of Duties and Responsibilities: - Setting up and taking down laboratory experiments for Biology 100-level lab courses.
- Ordering and collecting materials, including live specimens for the labs.
- Shopping off-campus for special materials.
- Propagating and maintaining, including watering, feeding, and weeding, all instructionally used plants in the greenhouse and experimental gardens.
- Supplying animals when required by instructional laboratories.
Minimum Qualifications: Equivalent to one year of experience performing support services for an instructional program and involving such activities as preparing, producing, dispensing or storing materials, supplies, and equipment.

Equivalent to one year of experience in ordering, purchasing, accounting or in office work related to technical materials, supplies, or equipment or in an office which provided similar services to a technical function or unit may be substituted for six months of the experience.
or
Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline in the specialty area to which assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Knowledge of procedures and practices relating to providing support services.
- Knowledge of procedures and practices related to ordering, issue, and inventory.
- Knowledge of routine laboratory procedures including microscopy, dissection, preparation of chemical solutions, and general bacteriology.
- Ability to plan ahead for needed supplies and materials with general supervision, and to anticipate difficulties.
- Familiarity with laboratory set-up procedures.
Preferred Qualifications: - Preferred Experience in a University Biology Education Department or Program.
- Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience as a Teaching Assistant in Biology laboratory courses.
- Experience in placing orders.
- Familiarity with the lower division courses taught by the Biology Department.
- Operation of routine laboratory equipment including microscope, pH meter, preparative centrifuge, balance.
- Material preparation for laboratory science.
- Use of microcomputer and other media in the preparation of visual display material.
- Effective communication with faculty and students.
