LOCATION: MissouriState Treasurer’s Office, Missouri State Capitol, 201 W. Capitol Avenue, Jefferson City, MO
DESCRIPTION: The Communications Director of the State Treasurer’s Office (STO) plays a critical role in overseeing public relations, media engagement, and communication strategies to broaden public understanding and awareness of key programs. The role requires exceptional judgment, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage complex issues with professionalism and care. This is a full-time position and is eligible for state employee benefits.
RESPONSIBILITIES: - Develop and oversee the implementation of the office’s strategic communications plan, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and public service values.
- Serve as a public spokesperson for the State Treasurer’s Office, managing media relations and public appearances.
- Craft, edit, and approve public-facing content, including press releases, speeches, newsletters, reports, and social media updates.
- Plan and execute media events, including press conferences and public education campaigns, to highlight the office’s programs.
- Monitor and analyze public feedback, media trends, and emerging issues to proactively shape messaging strategies.
- Collaborate with internal teams, program managers, and external partners to produce accurate, impactful communication materials.
- Support the production of key office initiatives such as reports, legislative updates, and responses to public inquiries.
- Oversee website and digital communications to ensure they reflect the office’s mission and provide accessible information.
- Other duties as assigned to support the Office of the State Treasurer.
QUALIFICATIONS:Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field is preferred. Three or more years of experience in professional communications or public relations is preferred.
Successful candidates must demonstrate: - Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with experience producing clear, professional content under deadline pressures.
- Strong knowledge of communication principles, media relations, and digital tools.
- Proven ability to address complex issues with discretion and professionalism.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Familiarity with government operations or legislative processes is a plus.
