DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Health Department is seeking a professional applicant to perform the following duties:

• Facilitates tuberculosis (TB) educational sessions and activities aimed at reducing TB morbidity in the African American population and other high-risk subgroups.
• Develops and maintains linkage with stakeholders to identify and establish rapport with key persons at facilities.
• Serves as public health liaison to hospitals, medical providers, community partners, and other facilities to ensure adequate TB education and care.
• Assists in writing and evaluating progress reports for the Bureau, and accurately prepares and submits daily/monthly activity reports as assigned by supervisor.
• Assists supervisors in the training of new Public Health Investigators (PHIs) and other personnel involved in disease intervention activities relating to the communicable disease control program.
• Participates in delivering Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) to high-risk TB patients, administering QuantiFERON Gold In-Tube Test (QFT-G)/ TB skin test, scheduling MD appointments, and providing appropriate TB education to patients.
• Performs other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Education, Behavioral Science, or a closely related field such as Public Health.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Two (2) years of experience in Public Health, Education or a closely related field are required.

A Master's degree in Education, Behavioral Science, or closely related field such as Public Health may be substituted for the above requirements.

Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
None.

PREFERENCES

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6

• Are able to draw blood utilizing standard phlebotomy practices
• Are willing to travel using own personal vehicle and receive reimbursement
• Have experience building and developing collaborative relationships within all levels of the organization, clients and community partners

GENERAL INFORMATION

SELECTION/SKILLS TEST REQUIREMENTS
None. However, the department may administer a skill assessment evaluation during application review and/or interview.

Pay Grade 18

SALARY INFORMATION GRANT FUND
Grants & Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
