Parks Maintenance Crew Leader
Description
Job Summary Oversees, leads, and participates in the activities of full-time and seasonal employees performing maintenance of City parks, trails, athletic fields, park facilities, equipment, and other City properties.
Essential Job Functions - Functions in a lead capacity for designated Parks Maintenance Staff, coordinating daily work assignments with the Park Operations Supervisor.
- Inspects park facilities, lawns, grounds, sport courts, ball fields, cultivated areas, trails, and other City facilities as assigned for maintenance priorities, damage, hazards, and vandalism; schedules maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Participates in and oversees park grounds maintenance activities of assigned crew performing loading and hauling equipment and materials; watering and mowing lawns; applying fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides; planting, pruning and trimming trees and shrubs; cleaning up trash and debris; and performing minor maintenance on park facilities.
- Inspects and assists with the installation, repair, replacement, and service of irrigation systems.
- Operates various manual, gas, and hand held electrical tools and equipment in building and grounds maintenance tasks.
- Inspects and performs basic maintenance of tools, equipment, park and grounds maintenance equipment.
- Monitors worksites to ensure adherence to safety rules and regulations and that the work zones and equipment are in safe operating condition; recognizes and reports unsafe acts and conditions to management as required.
- Responds as directed to perform emergency cleaning and maintenance work as required.
- Provides input to management on the performance of designated staff.
- Assists management with maintaining a sufficient inventory of equipment, supplies, and materials and purchases items as directed.
- Coordinates setup, teardown, and other tasks for special City events as directed; works assigned duties during City special events.
- Adheres to after-hours, weekend, and holiday standby requirements as needed.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Responds regularly and promptly to work.
Minimum Qualifications - High School Diploma or GED .
- Requires at least five (5) years of experience in park operations, landscaping, grounds maintenance, facility maintenance, construction, or a similar field.
- Previous lead or supervisory experience is preferred, but not required.
Equivalent combinations of education, experience, certification, and training may be considered.
Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements Required:
- Texas Class C driver’s license with good driving record as measured by the City’s evaluation system.
Preferred: - Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License issued through Texas Department of Agriculture with a minimum category of 3A.
- Playground Safety Inspector Certification issued through the National Parks and Recreation Association.
Salary:
$22.00-$25.00/hour (depending on qualifications)
