Overview

The Marina Dockhand I is primarily responsible for maintaining the routine cleanliness of the marina facilities and grounds. This position will perform preventive maintenance of facilities, docks, grounds, and marina equipment, and assist marina customers and the public. Additionally, this role will assist with safety patrols during special events, help enforce marina regulations, and assist with night shift patrols as needed.

Responsibilities

• Performs custodial duties to all Marina facilities, grounds, and maintain the overall cleanliness of the marina complex

• Empties all trash cans within the marina complex and remove debris/trash from Marina water within the marina basins and along the seawall

• Operates various types of equipment to accomplish tasks such as golf carts, Kubota 4X4, weed eater, backpack blower, power washer, and other various types of hand tools

• Performs carpentry and preventive maintenance of Marina docks and piers, facilities, and Marina infrastructure

• Uses various types of tools such as electric drills, hammer drills, jog saw, cutting torch, band saw, chainsaw, hole saw, Sawzall, hydraulic press, air naile, air impact wrench and cable cutters, etc

• Replaces and repair PVC, PVS fitting, water values sanitary hose line, and replace toilet flanges

• Uses chemicals such as cleaners, pipe glues, pipe fitting sealants and acids

• Utilizes tools such as multi-voltage meter, wire cutters and pilers

• Performs minor electrical maintenance and repairs to facilities, piers, and docks

• Inspects vehicles and ensure they are safe for daily operation, including, lubricated for correct levels, lighting, turns signal, wheels and tires for wear, damage, and proper air pressure

• Assist with boat lift hoisting, provide rigging, blocking, and bracing vessels on land

• Acts as safety control guide during crane operations

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non-Exempt - Full-Time

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

• Six (6) months to one (1) year experience

Certifications, Licenses or other requirements

Required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Required within six (6) months

• First Aid and CPR Certification

Preferred

• Previous experience with building and/or grounds maintenance with skills in painting, carpentry, plumbing and minor electrical work

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
