Park Maintenance Leadworker Salary range: $91,329.06 - $111,232.02 annually (Cost of living increase will be added in August)
What you will do: Under general supervision, the Park Maintenance Lead Worker participates in the operation of the City's park maintenance program. This leadership position oversees the maintenance, safety, and appearance of the City of Burlingame's parks, landscaped areas, and recreational facilities while coordinating daily operations and leading a parks maintenance team. The successful candidate will assign and supervise work, ensure compliance with safety standards, department policies, and City ordinances, and monitor the maintenance of irrigation systems, playgrounds, sports fields, trees, and park amenities. Responsibilities also include inspecting facilities, coordinating equipment maintenance, monitoring contractor performance, responding to public inquiries and service requests, and maintaining a high standard of customer service. The role works closely with the Parks Supervisor and Superintendent to evaluate operations, plan projects, recommend service improvements, and may serve as acting Parks Supervisor when needed. Success in this position requires strong leadership, sound decision-making, effective communication, and the ability to build positive working relationships with employees, City departments, contractors, community organizations, and the public.

Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of park and landscape maintenance practices, including the care and maintenance of turf, trees, shrubs, irrigation systems, playgrounds, and related park facilities. They will be knowledgeable in the safe operation and maintenance of landscaping equipment, vehicles, hand tools, and power tools, as well as the proper application of herbicides and pesticides in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
This position requires the ability to lead and supervise maintenance staff, coordinate daily work assignments, estimate labor and material needs, and perform a broad range of park maintenance and repair activities. The successful candidate will be able to evaluate plant health, read plans and blueprints, maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, strong organizational and problem-solving skills, and a commitment to workplace safety. They will build collaborative teams and foster positive working relationships with employees, other departments, contractors, and the public. Success in this role requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team while consistently delivering high-quality park maintenance services and supporting the organization's goals.
QUALIFICATIONS Education/ Experience - High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by specialized training in parks, facility and horticulture maintenance.
- Three years of responsible parks maintenance, landscape or facility maintenance experience similar to that of a Park Maintenance Worker in the City of Burlingame
License/Certificate - Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License.
- Possession of a Department of Pesticide Regulation Qualified Applicator Certificate, or ability to obtain within one year of appointment.

Benefits BENEFITS: - Retirement: CalPERS 2.5% at 55 for Classic members and 2.0% at 62 for New members; Classic members contribute 1.5% of the City’s contribution to CalPERS retirement via payroll deduction on a pre-tax basis
