Position Summary:Leads all aspects of day-to-day operations of the medical reception areas in the assigned ambulatory medical clinic. Responsible for accurate and efficient insurance verification, patient payment collection, and program eligibility for all patients, as well as participation in team-based care initiatives in the health centers.
Job RequirementEducation/Experience:Equivalent to graduation from high school and four (4) years of medical front office experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical RequirementsKnowledge of:Office theories and principles; medical terminology; admitting policies and procedures; insurance plans and requirements and associated federal and state assistance programs; basic coding principles; HIPAA regulations; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; patient rights; infection control policies and procedures; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures; age specific patient care practices.
Skill in:
Scheduling and monitoring the work of staff; applying customer service techniques; resolving insurance, billing, customer problems and complaints; working with practice management and EHR systems; performing basic mathematical computations; inventorying and ordering supplies; using computers and related software applications; using office equipment such as phones, copiers and facsimiles; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds under stressful conditions; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard office equipment, stamina to remain seated for extended periods of time and maintain concentration, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
