Description

The Position

The City of Riverside is accepting applications for the position of Plan Check Engineer to fill one (1) vacancy in the Building and Safety Division of the Community and Economic Development Department. The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months.

Under general supervision, when assigned to Public Works, to perform civil engineering work in the review of plans, calculations, reports and related documents submitted for residential, commercial, industrial, and public infrastructure projects; reviews street, storm drain, sewer, grading and related public improvement plans for compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and engineering practices; provides technical assistance to the public, developers, consultants, and other agencies; and performs related work as required. Under general supervision, when assigned to Building and Safety, to perform professional engineering work in the review of construction plans, calculations, and related documents for compliance with applicable building codes, laws, and regulations; to assist the public and design professionals by providing technical guidance; and to perform related work as required.

Work Performed

When assigned to Building and Safety, typical duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:


Qualifications

Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major work in civil engineering, structural engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architecture, or a closely related field. An Engineering in Training Certificate may substitute for two years of education.

Experience: Two years of professional experience in engineering depending on assignment. Two years of experience may substitute for two years of education.

Necessary Special Requirement:
Possession of an appropriate, valid class “C” California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

Positions that require, or may require, a California Commercial Driver’s License are considered Safety Sensitive and are monitored by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Any candidate being considered for a Safety Sensitive position must submit authorization forms to the City immediately upon request to begin the pre-employment process.

Education obtained outside the United States (US) require one of the following options:

An equivalency statement from an evaluation company certified by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) at Members - NACES or the Association of International Credential Evaluators Inc. (AICE) at http://aice-eval.org/members/ .An advanced-level degree from an accredited US college or university.
