Full-time position available with the Law Department, Corporate Division Pay Range: starting at $25.27 per hour
Work Location: 414 E. 12th Street
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

What you'll do
- Support City Attorneys with Sunshine Law requests and litigation by compiling, researching, and reviewing City records to ensure accurate and lawful responses.
- Identify records that may be closed under RSMo • 610.021, apply appropriate redactions, and help protect the City from legal risk while maintaining transparency.
- Track the status of assigned Sunshine requests and ensure the State-mandated three-day response deadline is met consistently.
- Draft and coordinate IT searches for communication records to support complete and defensible record production.
- Maintain organized case files and documentation to support compliance, audits, and litigation readiness.
- Perform additional paralegal and legal support tasks as assigned by the City Attorney.

- Records are properly reviewed and redacted, reducing compliance risk to the City.
- Attorneys can rely on well-organized files, research, and documentation.

REQUIRES - An accredited Associate's degree or certificate in paralegal studies (sometimes also called legal assistant or other similar terms); OR an accredited Bachelor's degree; OR high school graduation and 3 years of experience working in a law office performing administrative work.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained. Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
