Full-time position available with the City Planning Department - Director's Office
Salary Range: $25.27-$37.90 per hour
Work Location: 414 E. 12th St.
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.*Telework available after 6 month probationary period

What you'll do
• Provides a full range of technical support services to homeowners, contractors, developers, design professionals, and the public in submitting project applications through Compass KC, the City's online permitting software.
• Serves as a point of contact for applicants and stakeholders regarding planning, zoning, permitting, development review, and land use processes.
• Assist walk-in customers who need more help than can be offered by permit writers, inspectors, or plan review staff. Walk-in customers often have many questions that require time and research.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with neighborhood organizations, community groups, development professionals, and other stakeholders with interests in planning and development matters.
• Performs multi-disciplinary planning and development review tasks as assigned, including coordination with internal departments and external agencies.
• Advises developers, property owners, and applicants regarding the feasibility of development proposals and applicable City requirements, policies, ordinances, and procedures.
• Reviews permit applications, site plans, and related development documents using established checklists, codes, ordinances, standards, and procedures to ensure applications are accurate, complete, and compliant.
• Provides verbal and written information to contractors, design professionals, property owners, and the public regarding City ordinances, building and zoning codes, policies, procedures, permits, inspections, and land use matters.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
