Salary Range: $6,619-$9,929/month
Work Location: 414 E. 12th St.
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

The City of Kansas City, Missouri seeks an audit manager to lead the Financial Affairs Unit, which provides high-impact, objective assessments to elected leaders, the public, and city management on the financial performance of the City's departments, programs, and activities.
WHAT YOU WILL DO: We are looking for a finance and/or accounting professional with strong leadership, management, and communication (written and verbal) skills. The successful candidate must be able to analyze financial statements and identify risks or discrepancies and operate with a high level of accuracy in reviewing and reporting on complex financial data. Key responsibilities for the incumbent include assisting with developing, scoping, and planning investigations and audits; gathering, organizing, and analyzing data; and making recommendations based on key findings. This role is expected to operate under minimal supervision, provide mentorship and guidance to junior analysts, and engage collaboratively with colleagues.

The successful candidate will be a Certified Public Accountant, thrive in an environment of ambiguity; be adept at producing written work that is objective, balanced, concise, organized, and properly supported with evidence; and be passionate about making a difference in local government. The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), and a demonstrated facility with audit software.
Qualifications
REQUIRES:- An accredited master's degree or an advanced degree in public administration or business administration, economics, accounting, finance, information systems, social sciences, statistics, or a related field and 4 years professional experience in public or government auditing, public or business administration, corporate or municipal finance, budget, research, accounting, program evaluation, or a related field. Such experience is to be of a highly responsible and complex nature to include 2 years as a Senior Auditor (or equivalent)
- OR an accredited bachelor's degree in public or business administration, economics, accounting, finance, information systems, social sciences, statistics, or a related field and 6 years of professional experience in public or government auditing, public or business administration, corporate or municipal finance, budget, research, accounting, program evaluation, or a related field. Such experience is to be of a highly responsible and complex nature to include 2 years as a Senior Auditor (or equivalent). A professional certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP), or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) may be used to reduce the required years of professional experience to 4 years.
- For the Financial Audit Unit, candidates must be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained. Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
