The City of Chandler Public Works & Utilities Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Principal Engineer (PE), in the Utilities Administration Division, working within the water and wastewater field. The position is scheduled to work M-F, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Current City of Chandler employees may only hold one position and are not eligible for additional part-time or secondary positions within the City of Chandler.

Who we are

The Utilities Administration Division of the Public Works & Utilities Department is one of six American Public Works Association (APWA) Accredited agencies in the State. This division is responsible for providing management direction in planning, developing, operating, constructing, and maintaining water, wastewater, and solid waste public infrastructure, which is accomplished by working with city staff, elected officials, and the public.

Who we are looking for

Our new team member will be passionate about customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for someone to support the Public Works & Utilities Director and Assistant Directors with long-range planning, capital budget development, complex engineering analyses, facilitate coordination with city departments on capital projects as well as public infrastructure that are impacted by private developments. Additionally, this person will be expected to apply a full range of professional engineering principles and practices in water resources, planning, development, programming, design, construction, asset management principles and implementation. Our new team member will work side by side with various city operations and maintenance teams, interface with regulatory agencies, other governmental stakeholders, as well as city residents and utility customers. Additionally, this person will supervise the daily operations of assigned staff, which may include professional, technical, and clerical personnel. This classification is distinguished from other engineering work by the requirement for an Arizona Licensed Professional Engineer designation.

This is a regular full-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for 4 months should another position become available.

The City of Chandler will conduct a reference check and a driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.
