Description

POSITION

Under general supervision, Child Support Specialists conduct case assessments/management and investigations and conduct interviews with custodial and/or noncustodial parents and others to elicit factual information; determines support obligations; assists in preparing cases for court hearings; and enforces support orders.

This is the journey level within the Child Support Specialist series. The incumbents perform the full range of activities to enforce child support laws. Incumbents in this class are expected to be fully proficient in the specific laws, policies, civil and criminal procedures and processes required to establish and enforce child support cases.

MINIMUM QUALICATIONS

Education: Completion of 15 semester or 22.5 quarter units, from an accredited college or university preferably in Sociology, Social Work, Business, Public Administration, Liberal Arts, Paralegal, Criminal Justice or other related courses.

Experience: One year of experience as a Child Support Specialist (Entry) in Solano County or similar class in another agency OR two years of experience as a Child Support Assistant or comparable class in another agency.

LICENSING, CERTIFICATION AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants may be required to possess a valid California Driver’s License, Class C.

Note: All licenses, certificates and registrations must be kept current while employed in this class.

Based on the information provided in the application documents, the qualified applicants may be invited for further examination and will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to self-schedule. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Depending upon the number of applications received, the selection process may consist of an initial application screening, a mandatory information meeting, a supplemental questionnaire assessment, a written and/or practical exam, an oral board exam, or any combination listed. Responses to supplemental questions may be used as screening and testing mechanisms and will be used to assess an applicant’s ability to advance in the process; as such, responses to supplemental questions should be treated as test examination responses. VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS

To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A COPY OF THE DD 214, SHOWING DISCHARGE TYPE (GENERALLY COPY 4), MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT BY THE FINAL FILING DATE (or APPLICATION REVIEW DEADLINE).
