Description
The Job IMMEDIATE NEED TO FILL BILINGUAL POSITIONS The Department of Public Health (DPH) is recruiting for
Health Services Assistants to assist public health professionals and medical providers with the delivery and coordination of a variety of public health services in the community and/or a clinic setting. Duties may include providing counseling and information in areas such as communicable diseases, prenatal, post-partum, breastfeed and child growth and development, parenting techniques, and basic home management skills; providing health education for clients in-person and/or remotely through telephone calls and virtually; obtaining specific information regarding health problems; assisting patients with arrangements for maximum utilization of community resources; providing assistance with scheduling appointments for program services; and assisting professional staff with care coordination as needed. Health Services Assistants may be assigned to a variety of programs across the DPH.
The resulting eligible list may be used to fill vacancies in multiple programs throughout the Department of Public Health.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation which includes verification of employment history and education, fingerprinting, physical exam, and drug screening.
Extra-Help Appointment: Incumbents appointed to extra-help (temporary employment) positions do not attain status as regular County employees . Incumbents can elect to be considered for extra help appointment and continue to be placed on a eligible list for regular status position consideration.
Visa Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
WIC Nutrition Assistant Certification (WIC Positions only): Incumbents must successfully complete the required on-the-job training to obtain a WIC Nutrition Assistant certification issued by the California Department of Public Health within twelve months of hire.
Minimum RequirementsEducation: Must possess a high school diploma or GED, or a U.S. Department of Education approved High School Equivalency Test.
--AND-- In addition to the
education requirement listed above, applicants
must also qualify under one (1) of the following:
Option A: Three (3) months of full-time equivalent experience directly assisting professionals in providing health or social services.
Your experience must include working in a medical or social services front and back office and performing intake interviews to determine eligibility for medical or social services.--OR-- Option B: Successful completion of a Medical Assistant (MA) program (front and back office) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program resulting in a certificate.

--OR-- Option C: Successful completion of the Career Path Builder Program and attainment of the Entry-Level Workplace Certificate issued by San Bernardino County.
The certificate must be attached to your application for consideration Desired QualificationsEnglish/Spanish bilingual skills are highly desired. For consideration of bilingual assessments, applicants must indicate bilingual ability on the application. Employees may receive
additional compensation for utilizing such skills when allocated to a bilingual position, as approved by the department. Bilingual testing may be required.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent oral and written communication skills essential for effectively communicating with the public while maintaining strict patient confidentiality, convey basic privacy practice laws, ability to complete enrollment paperwork, and communicate basic health information and education; excellent interpersonal/customer service skills; basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint); and knowledge of community resources. The ideal candidate will also have experience working with the community, engaging and supporting diverse populations.

Department of Public Health -
Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) program, applicants who have experience working at a WIC site and/or with breastfeeding education and promotion are highly desirable.
