About the Role This is a primarily field-based position (approximately 75% field), leading crews in the field while also performing essential administrative and planning work. As a vital member of the Stormwater’s Operations Group, you will be supervising staff that will be performing a variety of work tasks such as vegetation control maintenance, mowing, landscaping, weed removal, invasive weed removal, brush, and tree removal. Work is performed outdoors, in all types of weather conditions and in aquatic environments. About the TeamThis position resides within the Asset Management Unit (AMU) of Stormwater Services Section in King County’s Water and Land Resources Division which is a part of the Department of Natural Resources and Parks. AMU is comprised of a dedicated team of high-performing engineers and program managers charged with managing and maintaining King County‘s Stormwater assets and infrastructure. AMU manages and operates assets to established maintenance standards while ensuring compliance with all local and federal permits (NPDES).
About the Division The Water and Land Resources Division (WLRD) is at the forefront of King County’s efforts to protect and restore clean water and healthy habitat and strengthen the resilience of communities, environment, and infrastructure in the face of climate change. We are a dedicated workforce of more than 450 supported by an annual budget of $280 million. WLRD has a strong track record of developing innovative strategies to protect working farms and forests, restore habitat, improve water quality, and provide county residents with equitable access to green space. We house the Land Conservation Initiative, which aims to preserve our last, most important lands. Our forestry and agricultural programs help individuals protect their lands and support local food production.We house four salmon recovery forums where we collaborate with scores of partners to plan, design, and build habitat projects. We partner with regional jurisdictions to help residents and businesses reduce the threats posed by production, use, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials. We are the primary service provider to the King County Flood Control District, contributing to flood preparedness and constructing and maintaining facilities that restore rivers and reduce risk. Our one true local service to unincorporated King County is stormwater management, protecting water quality, reducing flooding, and building and maintaining facilities. Finally, we provide regional science and laboratory services to an array of customers, maintaining high-quality data sets used to assess water quality and habitat trends, and provide Best Available Science to inform decision making. In two words, we are a watershed utility.

- Managing Multiple Crews that Maintain Stormwater Facilities to ensure proper function as designed and within time frames dictated by permitting and complying with prescribed maintenance standards.
- Managing includes administrative tasks pertaining to staff, logging and tracking hours, distributing work, supervising work, training in equipment use, safety training tracking.
- Manage all equipment, tracking equipment purchase, use and maintenance.
- Maintain Stormwater Facilities by mowing, clearing, and removing brush, weeds, invasive weeds, trees and other debris.
- Safely operate and maintain equipment and vehicles such as weed eaters, power blowers, push mowers, remote mowers, trucks, trailers and other small landscaping equipment.
- Work with other Section, Division and Department teams to improve efficiency of veg control and mowing, including space planning, cross divisional or departmental coordination of work orders.
- Communicate effectively between program stakeholders including members of the public.
- Other facility maintenance duties as assigned.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, SkillsQualifications You Bring:- A Bachelor's degree in natural resources management or similar; OR and equivalent of 5 years' experience working in a field similar to natural resources management.
- Five years' experience working in maintenance and operations of stormwater assets or municipal assets (roads, drainage, nature resources or utilities, etc.)
- Five years' experience leading teams.
- Effective communication of technical details in a clear and concise manner to diverse audiences.
- Commitment and understanding of equity and a demonstrated skill in establishing and maintaining work relationships with a diverse group of people.

It Would be Good if You Bring:- Proficient in Cityworks or other Enterprise Asset Management System.
Physical Requirements: - Ability to work on uneven slopes, surfaces, grades and terrain in inclement weather and other adverse conditions while carrying equipment up to 50lbs.
- Ability to trailer equipment safely.
- A final offer of employment will be contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment physical.
Supplemental InformationWorking Conditions:The Supervisor II position for the Stormwater Services Mowing Crew is primarily a field-based position, working primarily 75% in the field, and 25% following a hybrid model, with days in the office as well as telecommuting. The primary onsite location is
155 Monroe Ave NE, Renton, WA 90856. The frequency of in-person presence is guided by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly.
Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.
King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will join an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the department's hybrid environment. Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and must maintain a home workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsible during scheduled work hours.
Work Location: The primary onsite location is 155 Monroe Ave NE, Renton, WA 90856. Crew members will report to daily to this address unless an alternative location is approved by the Supervisor/Manager.
Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.
