Job DetailsUnder general supervision, conducts a variety of complex and specialized financial, statistical, document processing, auditing, and technical record-keeping tasks. Serves as the primary support for designated function(s) within the department, such as the Auditor-Controller’s Office or Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office. Reviews fiscal records, applications, or specialized documents, ensuring accuracy and completeness, and assists the public or County staff accordingly. Provides guidance on departmental procedures and requirements, offering information about services and functions. Undertakes advanced technical and office support duties as needed, with responsibilities tailored to the assigned function, and performs related tasks as necessary.
Minimum QualificationsACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN - AUDITOR I Education and Experience: Two (2) years of work experience in performing financial, statistical, or document processing and recording work.
Additional directly related experience and/or education may be substituted.
ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN - AUDITOR II Education and Experience: Two (2) years of work experience in performing financial, statistical, treasury support, tax collection support, payroll, collections, and/or document processing at a level comparable to that of an Accounting Technician or Accounting Technician - Auditor I with the County of Lake.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is an advanced, specialized working level classification for performing a variety of the more complex, specialized financial, statistical, auditing, and document processing work for the department.
The Accounting Technician - Auditor I class is distinguished from the Accounting Technician class in that the Accounting Technician - Auditor I classification is responsible for reviewing/auditing the work of other County staff. In addition, incumbents may be responsible for the establishment and maintenance of one or more systems of accounting activity.
Positions in the Accounting Technician - Auditor series are flexibly staffed. Incumbents may advance to the higher classifications after gaining the knowledge, skill, experience, licenses, and certifications which meet the qualifications for and demonstrating the ability to perform the work of the higher-level class.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general supervision from supervisory and/or management staff, depending on areas of work assignments. Exercises no supervision over staff. May provide lead direction, work coordination, and training to technical staff, as assigned.

- Performs a variety of the more complex fiscal support, auditing support, and record keeping work, developing and maintaining financial records.
- Updates, reviews, and maintains records and information in computerized systems and databases.
- Audits, reconciles, balances, or adjusts accounting records.
- Locates and resolves problems and prepares corrective entries in maintaining accounting controls.
- Prepares fiscal records and reports; revises and maintains statistical, bookkeeping and accounting control records such as ledgers, registers, and journals.
- Prepares journal entries, posting to general or subsidiary ledgers, closing and balancing accounts.
- Maintains a variety of statistical or other specialized records, posting and updating information to keep records current and accurate.
- Verify purchase orders and purchasing information.
- Maintain work and time records.

- Assist with the development and control of budget information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: - Comprehensive knowledge of financial and statistical record keeping, document acceptance and processing requirements, and/or information system maintenance related to the department or work unit assigned.
- In-depth understanding of the policies, laws, rules, and regulations impacting the operations, transactions, and functions of the department and the County accounting functions.
- Good public relations techniques.
- Maintenance of files and information retrieval systems.
- Computers and software used in office, fiscal, and administrative support work.
- Modern office methods and procedures.
- Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Mathematics.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is the advanced journey-level position in the Accounting Technician - Auditor series. Incumbents perform a variety of the most complex, specialized financial, statistical, auditing, and document processing work requiring substantial knowledge of the policies, procedures, and special requirements of the department.
Incumbents are normally assigned primary program, fiscal, and technical support assignments for assigned function(s) in the department.
This class is distinguished from Accounting Technician - Auditor I by the level and degree of special program support work and the possible assignment of lead worker and work coordination responsibilities. Incumbents are expected to have the knowledge and capability to perform assignments and provide assistance outside of their specialized work area.

Licensing and Certifications: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California driver's license.

RETIREMENT - County employees are members of the California Public Employee Retirement system (CalPERS).CalPERS provides a defined benefit pension at retirement for County employees.The pension formulas and employee contribution amounts may vary by bargaining unit, date of hire, prior qualifying service, and classification. HEALTH AND INSURANCE BENEFITS - Medical, dental, hospital, vision, life and disability coverage is available to employees and their dependents. The County contributes $1,500 of the monthly premiums for the insurance plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL may be adjusted for current city or county government employees.
VACATION - 80 hours per year during the first five years of service, 120 hours per year after five years, and additional accruals based on years of service beyond fifteen years. Pro-rated for part-time employees.
SICK LEAVE - Accrues at a rate of 96 hours per year. Pro-rated for part-time employees.
HOLIDAYS- An average of twelve paid 8-hour holidays per year. Pro-rated for part-time employees.
SALARY - Lake County has an adopted salary schedule. The salary range for most classifications is in five increments with a provision for longevity increases. Appointments are normally made at the first step of the salary range.
SOCIAL SECURITY - County employees participate in Social Security.
CALIFORNIA STATE DISABILITY INSURANCE - SDI is available to some County employees.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLANS and CREDIT UNION MEMBERSHIPS are available to County employees.
