MECHANICAL SUPERVISOR

EXAMPLES OF DUTIESUnder direction, plans and supervises the maintenance of mechanical systems and associated controls in City facilities and building complexes; plans, supervises, and/or performs the installation and maintenance of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and electrical systems; ensures that systems and associated controls constructed and maintained for the City under private contract conform to specifications ensures that building complexes and appurtenances are appropriately maintained; prepares or assists in the preparation of contract specifications for the alteration, repair, or maintenance of building complex facilities, develops and maintains safe working practices and enforces strict conformance to safety regulations; selects, trains, assigns, and valuates, the work of assigned personnel, such as heating, air conditioning, ventilation technicians (HVAC), plumbers, electricians or other related personnel; maintains records and prepares reports; may assist in the development and management of a budget; monitors and coordinates related services/vendor contracts i.e. fire & alarm monitoring systems, elevators and code/regulatory compliance tasks; performs other related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS TO FILE Candidates must meet Option A or Option B: Option A: Four years of paid, full-time equivalent experience in the maintenance, repair, installation, and operation of mechanical systems, electrical systems, storm water pump station controls, associated motor and monitoring controls or installation and maintenance of heating, air conditioning, ventilation or refrigeration equipment.
OR Option B: Two years of paid, full-time equivalent experience in the supervision of staff performing the maintenance, repair, installation, and operation of mechanical systems, electrical systems, storm water pump station controls, associated motor and monitoring controls or installation and maintenance of heating, air conditioning, ventilation or refrigeration equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Ability to use a computer, including knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Office or other related software.
Willingness to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends, overtime, holidays, and respond to emergency callbacks.
Willingness to respond to emergency calls within a thirty-minute timeframe and may be required to serve on a rotating emergency callout list.
A valid driver's license and a current DMV record must be submitted to the hiring department at time of selection.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) certified; possession of a Building Operator's Certificate; Heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) certification. Experience working with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Experience working with building automation (Lighting or mechanical controls, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (SCADA).

Screening of applicants will be conducted on the basis of application and required supplemental application submitted. This selection procedure will be conducted using a continuous non-competitive process, which means applications are evaluated solely on training, experience, education, or certification. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list. Applicants receiving Veteran’s Credit will be placed on the eligible list first and then in the order in which applications were filed. This is a continuous eligible list, which means eligible lists may be established periodically and may expire six months from their effective date. Applicants may apply only once during a four-month period.
Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications with applications received by April 10, 2026, will be placed on Test #01 established eligible list. This position is eligible for Local Hiring Preferences and Veterans Preference Points.
